Present Progressive Practice with Tom and Jerry

I always find using cartoons goes down extremely well!

Lots of fun! Any cartoon clip will do of course.

Pause at certain points and encourage the children in pairs (one taking Tom and one Jerry) to state what the character is doing using the present progressive.

Sometimes I then switch it to the past progressive by rephrasing the question "What were they doing?" There are other possibilities too:
Give them a statement and ask them to decide whether it is past progressive or present progressive;
Turn the sound down and ask them to take it in turns to 'turn up the sound' (make the sound effect) whilst the other states the present progressive e.g. Jerry is snoring.
